"It was, I would say, kind of an accident," smiles Under the Stairs' founder and director Vladimir Bogdanic. "It was a very, very simple prototype, but we won an award and that gave us a little bit of a boost" The striking black and white roguelite from Croatian developer Under the Stairs – its debut title – released last month, courtesy of Gearbox Publishing.

Eyes in the Dark: The Curious Case of One Victoria Bloom is also one of them. Supermarket Shriek comes to consoles in Q1 2019.Participating in game jams is a common way for developers to cut their professional teeth, and in some cases these projects made in a few hours or days turn into very successful fully-fledged games.īaba is You, Goat Simulator, Celeste, Inscryption, Snake Pass, Donut County, Superhot… The list of games resulting from game jams (either internal or external) is long. Set in a near future dystopian alternate reality universe world (probably) our heroes must go on a journey to discover something deep within themselves and ultimately save save SAVE! On 3 for 2 items in the canned food isle, while stocks last (Ts and Cs apply).

The Supermarket Shriek website also wins the prize for best story blurb: I love that the game’s name is a reference to the cheesy game show Supermarket Sweep. Yell with the man, and the cart goes left. Yell a little louder with the goat, and the cart veers to the right. The further you pull the trigger, the louder they yell. Inside the shopping cart are a man and a goat, whose yells you control by pulling the left and right controller triggers. You race a shopping cart through a variety of bizarrely-laid-out stores. I had to wait for the pin-seeking crowds to dissipate to be able to play without standing in an hours-long line, but it was definitely worth coming back for.

Supermarket Shriek is a bizarre racing game that was easily my favorite at Microsoft’s booth in the main Expo Hall.
